I live in Moscow and I’ve never seen a single one of these on the streets. Weird…

Many parts of ural are made in western countrys. Like the piston from italy, piston rings from u.s.a and cylinders and charger from japan.

I’m really lookin into motorcycles, and am tryin to look at everything before I decide on anything, but sidecar motorcycles have always had my attention… I was wondering if it’s possible to remove the sidecar and just drive the bike if you’d like to… anyone have an answer for a soon to be licensed motorcyclist? lol

stichergary has been riding across the USA since the beginning of April on one. No problems. Such a cool ride!

don’t be afraid, we will stay close to you forever :)

I own a 2007 2 wheel drive Patrol and only a $4.76 flasher for the signal lights has kept it from being 100% trouble free bike in over 8,000 miles. The newer models have so many upgrades that the poor dependability is a thing of the past. I’ve given rides to friends from 9 years old to a birthday ride for a lady on her 82nd birthday. It brings a smile to people who just see it going down the road. What can be better than that????

“Russian-made” and “Reliable” usually are not used in the same sentence.

But from what I hear, these are (usually) the exception

Ural does make a couple of solo models as well, I would think that’s a more practical alternative to buying a sidecar and trying to modify it.

Uni body construction reduces weight and minimizes materials.”moor profit”. Older cars tend not to be aerodynamically efficient. makes gas millage go up. “Mean’s they wont sell” And there are a number of other reasons. But if your looking for a old new car try the lotus 7.

mattidragomir January 1, 2010 at 2:03 am

i sell parts for all russian motorcicles

JerryMopar January 1, 2010 at 2:36 am

From what Ive heard, VERY reliable if taken care of, and if something does break, they are supposedly very simplistic.

To anyone who’s interested, buy a Ural, not a Chiang Jiang. The Russian bikes are OHV, have an alternator, and electric start. Chiang Jiangs have half the horsepower due to being flatheads, have a magneto, and are kick only. The Chinese have not updated the bike from the original BMW design from the 30′s, the Russians have.

My brother and I inherited my dad’s Gear Up, and now, my brother is looking to sell his Honda CBR so he’s got more time to ride the Ural. It gets looks and smiles everywhere we ride it. Also, it is hell for tough, it sat outside, under a cover, all winter, and still started right up in May.

Why don’t car manufacturers do more of this? Making new cars that look like older cars. I am seeing motorcycle companies doing it, but you never see car companies doing it. I’d pay more for a classic-looking new car.

mulletalchemist January 1, 2010 at 4:55 am

say, how bad would it be if i wanted to disconnect the sidecar and run the bike solo. as nice as the stability is during the winter months, i would rather have something that i could ride a bit more nimbly during nice days.

China also can best offer BMW CJ750 sidecar from Luke’s sidecar shop.

taynghi January 1, 2010 at 6:35 am

chain drive is primitive, I will never ride anything with a chain, even my bicycle is shaft driven

zewombbat January 1, 2010 at 7:29 am

only downside is that you lose little more torque and horsepower with a shaft drive than whith chain drive. but shaft drive is superior in maintainance. I think it is worth it…

SLADE330 January 1, 2010 at 8:01 am

looks like heaps of fun

jackloganbill January 1, 2010 at 8:55 am

We have an ’06 Ural Tourist and absolutely love it. So far, it’s been completely reliable and it’s a blast in the snow, even with the one-wheel drive.

hdw11111 January 1, 2010 at 9:53 am

I wonder how reliable are these Russian made machines?

PureAssassinIII January 1, 2010 at 10:46 am

He says “never having to worry about DRIVE-CHAIN problems!!” Dumbass.

TroyaE117 January 1, 2010 at 11:23 am

“Never having to worry about shaft drive maintainence, or failure”?
He doesn’t own a Ural.
