I must admit that I am not a Country Music fan but this song got me rocking in my seat. Nice job.

I think you are spot on. as they say in the film Spinal Tap: Money talks and bullshit walks. You still have the dilemma that people like the combination of stirring chords/sounds and lyrics that capture something of what we feel. Maybe you have a song inside you trying to get out?

I was working in an auto factory when this song first came out. The harmonies and guitar sounds always caught my ear over the din. It wasn’t until yesterday that I gave it a proper listen.

Best regards from the states.

Grimacing at my phrasing in the above message. Shouldn’t try typing when I’m exhausted maybe.

I think the trouble with current Nashville songs is that they’re nearly all written by the same ten people. Just as with hip-hop, the Nashville image is a marketable commodity -and the lyrics are sinking to the same lows as the audience becomes less and less discerning.

part of me agrees with you, Mr Fish. I play in a country rock band and most of the cover songs are about cars or trucks, girls, leaving home, coming home, going home or the perils of staying home. We close our set with this song and it goes down great – proves your point! If the mawkish sentimentality gets a bit much, listen to “These Days” the Jackson Browne version. I think Glenn Campbell wrote it but Browne’s version is lyrically spare and all the more moving for that. Cheers from England

Wow… how could a song which songs so good have such pedestrian, stupid lyrics.
Lowest common denominator appeal I suppose.

Nice sounds / rubbish lyrics.

This song reminds me of my wife. For one thing this is one of her favorite songs, and secondly, and most importantly, the line about no make-up. That’s her, she’s beautiful just the way the Lord made her to be so I could love her just the way she is….simply beautiful.
