Modec Seal £3m French Order for Electric Vans
Modec, a Coventry based van company announced yesterday that they had sealed a £3m van contract with a French distributor. This news was released after they also announced that their battery powered urban delivery van is the first van to gain the EC Whole Vehicle Type Approval. This means that Modec can now sell the vans to any country within the EU without having to put it through more tests.
The electric van manufacturer has had business with the likes of Tesco's, FedEx, Center Parcs and UPS, just to name a few. They can now add ElecTruckCity to their client list because they made a deal of £3m for 100 vehicles.
ElecTruckCity is a French van distributor who is based in Paris, they are the first Modec distributor in France. Chief executive of Modec, Bill Gillespie, said this about the announced deal: “International demand for Modec is extremely strong. ElecTruckCity has taken the first step by setting up a distribution network in France and we are very excited about the future of the French market."
The vans that were bought by ElecTruckCity were the popular urban delivery vans. Modec has currently sold over 150 ehicles in the UK to customers like Tesco. The reason these vans are becoming popular is because they are designed for the city. The van which can travel 100 miles using the lithium battery, costs only 15p per mile, compared to a petrol powered van which can cost 37p per mile.
The vans also help companies reduce their emmission because they save more than 9 tonnes of CO2 every year.
As these Modec vans become ever more popular, it appears that the common vans that you see around like Citroen vans or Nissan vans will have alot of competition as more and more companies want to get greener.
Modec are also entering into the tipper van market with their new electric tipper van. The new tipper van has been designed for local authority refuse collection. No doubt these will become popular as councils try to lead the way for a greener country.
I also wouldn't be surprised if we started to see an increase in van leasing companies that are investing in Modec vans as alot of companies that are currently leasing their vans may be interested in a cheaper, more greener alternative.
