Innovative Device to Stop Speeding

by R. Kohler on 2009/06/28

For along time police have been using a huge amount of resources to catch and punish people that speed on the road. For each time you get caught speeding you get given a certain amount of points on your licence, once these points have been reached you could potentially end up losing the licence completely.

A lot of people have been outraged by the amount of speed cameras that are popping around all over the place and the reason people are frustrated is because they below they are not being planted to save lives but to rather earn a profit from.

Well a new device that is currently in trial in London could eliminate all of this as it will stop people from speeding even the slightest; basically the device in your car will track where you are like a sat navigation system, and it will be able to tell the speed limits around the current location. What will occur, is that the vehicle will not allow you to accelerate above the speed limit if there is one in place.

In the £400,000 trial, sophisticated under-bonnet satellite equipment will ensure that each car always "knows" precisely where it is. This data will be automatically matched with an on-board digital map containing details of road speed limits.None of the technology will affect the way the vehicle works.

So this could be a very good opportunity for all police departments around the globe as they will be able to cut back on the time that they spend chasing people that break the speed limit and instead concentrate on full crime prevention, the same sort of thing could also be used to stop drink driving. I.E. the vehicle would not start if they went over the limit.
