History

Firestone started expanding into the Canadian market and by 1922, introduced its tires, besides also making a celebrated brand called Old fire named after the famous racecar driver Barney Oldfield.

A flurry of motor accidents in October 1978, which led to the demise of 34 individuals due to poor tire quality led to Firestone receiving much negative publicity. More than 7 million tires of the 500 brand of Firestone tires were got back from the market and Firestone also had to fork out $500,000 as fine, making this punishment the harshest in American Corporate history.
