Many people treat cars like a status symbol. We've all seen the stories about moguls with multi-story garages and huge luxury car collections. A better option could be an inexpensive car for some. It's doesn't have to be a clunker just because it doesn't cost a lot. Less expensive can still be functional, and even fun.
One of the ways to obtain a quality car on the cheap is to purchase a discount used car. There a much less expensive top model cars, at least when compared to the new versions. A new term has emerged over the last decade, pre-owned – to denote used cars that are of high quality. These pre-owned vehicles have even managed to pull some long time new car buyers into the used car market. Think about luxury vehicles. Even after 10 years a well built Lexus can look and drive like new. Many people always buy late model used cars instead of new ones.Remember the chauffeur in “Driving Miss Daisy”? He always bought Miss Daisy's second hand, luxury cars.
Some new cars are pretty inexpensive. Companies like Hyundai make excellent cars that can be purchased new for under $12,000. A car like the Honda Civic weighs in at about $15,000 for one of the best engineered cars in the world. They get great mileage, last a long time, and retain original value very well. Luxury cars that need premium fuel and parts are generally more expensive to maintain too.
There are even relatively less expensive luxury cars. Audi has some luxury models that generally sit at the bottom price in their class. Audi boasts the top engineered cars in the world, bar none. A less expensive luxury sports car is the Audi TT.
Some people aren't happy unless they scrape the bottom of the barrel cheap. When they shop for autos they look for the car their grandparents drove. Teenagers often purchase such a car as their first vehiclePeople often purchase such a car as a first vehicle for a teen. As long as it's safe to drive, it gets them from A to B. But watch out, the age old adage “You get what you pay for” applies to cheap cars too. It may not seem like such a deal when it won't start on a cold winter morning.
